TAIWAN STM'12 SHIRTS are here!!!

Hey everybody!  Shirts Are HERE!  They are available to all supporters with a donation of $10 or more.  We ordered 300 shirts in black, blue, and red.

thei42project's Easter Outreach

Hey, bet y'all didn't know that we have an Easter Outreach!

These last two years, we just happened to have people in Taiwan during Christmas and Easter. During these times, we go into public schools with one of our partner organizations and share the story of the two holidays during their English class times. (万大國小)

We usually teach some related vocab, tell the story using pictures, and talk to the teachers to get lists of potential problematic children. We also use these outings as opportunities to make further connections with school staff. Using this method of introduction, it can become much easier to run a camp using school facilities and in partnership with schools during the STMs.

This area is a traditionally poorer area of Taipei. The majority of gangs, prostitution, and broken families in Taipei exist within this district. This is due to the historical foundation of the area.

Check out the smiles the story of Jesus can bring and keep them in your prayers!

Taiwan Short Terms Missions '11 Summary

Hello Everyone,

It has been a while since we've posted, but none the less...here's a video summary of what miraculous work God has done through his people last year.

Please continue to pray for these children. Though this may be last year's Missions but none the less...every child we touch is a seed that we've planted, so please pray that through these children we could bring their family that much closer to knowing Christ.

Hello everybody~

During the second week while the majority of the team was at the English camp in Nankang, part of the group went to Lungshan Daycare. Because of needs at the English camp, we had some team members who were assigned to the daycare moved to Nankang. The problem was our personnel at the daycare decreased from six to three team members. We had only one teacher in each of the three classes and the result was that the kids got slightly rowdy. Even so, it was great experience teaching them. Many of them had never been to church before and we were able to not only tell them about our faith and why we were there, but we were also able to show them God’s love.

This was our first time working at this place and we thank the Lord for this opportunity. Unlike the English camp, which focused on junior high and high school kids, the daycare had kids from 2-12 years old. The 2 to 5 year olds were difficult to work with because of their short attention span and delight in falling down all over each other like dominos at random times. They were really cute but exhausting to play with after a couple of hours. There were about twenty little kids and we played games like London Bridges, Ring around the Rosy, and Red Light Green Light.

We taught Bible stories, English, crafts, music, and games to the older two classes. We had some trouble with discipline because there were a couple of kids with mental disabilities who were slightly disruptive and hard to involve in some of the activities. The first thru third grade class had around 15 kids. Being the only teacher, I felt that I didn’t really get to know the first thru third graders as well as I could have. By the end of the fourth day, I still didn’t know all their names.

On the other hand, the fourth thru sixth grade class only had seven kids. Not only did I know each of their names, I was able to get to know them personally. It was really sad leaving knowing that I most likely won’t ever get to see them again. Even though at times we got so tired that we hid from the kids during breaks, I really did enjoy interacting with them. On the last day, a few of the fourth thru sixth grade kids started crying because we had to leave. I was really amazed how even in the four short days we were able to make such an impact on their lives. But of course, with God, all things are possible. Please continue to pray us and our ministry.

God Bless,
Serena Liu

7/25/10 Newsletter. Pictures to come

Hey Ladies and Gentlemen,

We’re back again and starting our final half of our mission trip! As we mentioned in our last newsletter, we were working with Nankang Grace Christian Church and hosting our second week of camps. Unlike our two previous camps, this camp was for junior high and high school students and more of a summer camp than an English camp. The camp was based around 5 main classes: main event, music, crafts, games, and discussion. The curriculum was based on our four basic themes of step up, stand up, step out, and stand out. Through stories like Moses encountering God at the burning bush, David standing up to Goliath, Jesus feeding the five thousand with 5 loaves and 2 fishes, and Jesus and Zacchaeus, the adolescents learned what it meant to step up, stand up, step out, and stand out in their schools and in their relationships.

The camp went well and we saw the lives of some children change in the course of four days. The greatest thing about the camp was that we were able to break into the world of these teens are speak to them on a personal level and care for them. What we found was that the lives of these Taiwanese adolescents were no different than those of our own in America. We had one who struggled with cutting, people with self-image problems, and victims of bullying. Even though, we know these are problems that happen globally, it was still surprising to see in the lives of these innocent-looking teens. It really spurred us all the more to show them that love is not dead but that True Love lives. We were given that opportunity Friday night at our camp lock-in. It was an incredibly fun experience not only for them but for us as well! We were able to really bond with the kids and really make a mark in their lives. At breakfast, all the kids and other co-workers were asking if we were going to be doing it again next year and that they were looking forward to it. What surprised me was that one of the quietest kids and the loudest/indifferent kids at the camp were really pushing me to bring the team back next year. In one of the letters I got from the kids, the camper said thank you for the love that she received at least six different times.

This morning, we helped teach the children’s Sunday school at Taipei Christian Assembly church, the location of one of our camps scheduled for next week. We were also able to share some of our music with them, and Jerry shared his testimony as well. Afterwards, we met with the other coworkers from their church who would be helping out with the camp, and got to know each other and pray together. We are excited for each and every one of the 49 kids who God is bringing to us, and hope that they will see God’s love in and through us! In addition to the camp at Taipei Christian Assembly Church, which will be held in the mornings, our team will split up during the afternoons to run a second camp in the afternoons at HuaJiang Elementary School as well as an afterschool childcare center at LanJing.

Please join with us through prayer as we seek to reach out to all of these kids with God’s love! Please also pray for our team members, that we might grow in humility, unity, and not lose focus on this trip. Thank you again for your love and your support!

7/16 newsletter

Sorry i forgot to post our last one but I'll post that later.

Hey guys and girls,
We’ve finally arrived at the last day of our first camp at DingNe. At the beginning of this week, the team was split into two teams, one was sent to DingNe while the other to YongHe. Our DingNe team is comprised of Elijah Chiang, Brad Wong, Esther Goh, Ellen Goh, Tony Bai, Ruth Rongmei Chien Tu, and Karissa Tu. As some of you may remember, DingNe is a small “village” (for a lack of better words) comprised of a lower economic class. Many of the children that live here were left with their grandparents, while their parents go around the country looking for work. While many other children rarely see their parents since they work 12 or more hour shifts.
The church here has demonstrated a passion for their community and has loyally served with us for the past three years. Over the years, these helpers have become good friends as well as trustworthy soldiers in this battle for the hearts of these children. Unfortunately, many of them are suppressed with the very same evil which we are trying to fight against. For example, one of our helpers can’t be a Christian because of their grandmother’s strong Daoist roots and the pressure exerted on her by her family. She says she can’t officially be a Christian until college because of this fear of her family. This is just one of the examples that some of these helpers face.
These last three days, we have seen shy relatively shy children turn into the most adorable little children. Although most of these children don’t go to church, many of them have been excited about possibly going to our Saturday evangelical meeting, to see their teachers “perform”. The classes run from 9:00 to about 3:30 and are jam-packed with screams, laughter, and the talk of little children. Our curriculum includes Drama, Grammar, Music, and Games, which is all precluded by a main event where we teach the daily Bible story and theme. These classes have been made just that much harder because at times it seems impossible to get the children to stop hugging you or clinging on to you. For example, we’ve had children ask us to take them home almost everyday and games have become hardto lead because I have a kid clinging to each one of my limbs.
However, despite the love that we have experienced from our children, it is more important for them to experience the love our heavenly Father. Today’s story is the story of Zacchaeus and we’re giving a message explaining that no matter how bad they are and no matter what they’ve done, Jesus still loves them and wants to be with them. We hope that this will be that chance where they can find Jesus and discover who He is.
Please pray for us today as we also have the closing ceremony tonight. The program will consist of the children strutting their stuff for their parents, a brief performance by our team, Brad’s music video, and a message and invitation by the pastor of the local church. Although we know that not everyone’s meant to be a harvester, we pray that God will really open the hearts of these parents and the hearts of the little children.
Elijah Chiang

Hey everybody,
It’s Enoch, the team leader of the Taiwan STM team. It’s amazing, but we’ve already made it through most of our first camp here in the city of Yonghe, which is a member of the Taipei metropolitan area. This area has a very high density of people, but has a more relaxed business and traffic interface than is found in Taipei.
The church we are working with here in Yonghe has shown a great deal of passion and faith to reach their community for Jesus. Unfortunately, they do not have much of the local resources and manpower needed to match their faith. Fortunately, our God has rewarded their faith by allowing our Taiwan STM to join them in bringing the love of Christ into children’s lives.
Over the past week, we have seen more than 65 children, most than 80% havn’t been to a church, at this camp. The camp is run in a very small church, with three rooms that combine to be smaller than GPCCC’s Youth Group room. The church is split into the main sanctuary, a spill-off room that is smaller than the size of the average US master bathroom, and a basement floor.
The camp runs from 9:00am to 4:00pm, with a lot of chaos, joy, and learning stuffed in between. We teach three classes: Vocabulary, Games, and Music. Vocabulary class allows students to learn and practice the basics of English through daily themes. Games allow the students an outlet for excess energy, while providing them the opportunity to practice English while learning important concepts of competition, fair play, and teamwork. Music class helps the students learn to express themselves bravely through English Sunday school songs and many different hand motions.
The main sessions, where everyone is congregated to open and close each day, are the highlights of each day. During these 2 hours, we share bible stories, biblical principle, and Chinese worship songs to help students learn and become more interested in the Bible, Christianity, and Jesus.
It’s been a true test of faith for the seven co-workers we have from the local church. They’ve had to rotate in as their schedules allow, and have had to deal with a lot of unfamiliar things in their familiar church setting. Students are also not the typical “US student” . We average about two or three fights a day, as well as a fair amount of bullying, and general unruliness. These children mostly don’t come from traditional family backgrounds, as more than 1 in 3 families in the local area are single parent homes. Team members are quite tired as well, as we’ve been averaging about 6 hours of sleep a day. Please continue to pray for all involved.
Please pray for us as we try to wrap it all up in a program this evening at 7pm (4am US Pacific time). In this program the local church will sing a song, the children will review everything they learned on stage for their parents, and we shall be sharing the gospel message through Chinese and English songs, Brad’s music video, and testimonies.

Everyone knows the most important thing needed to be on a championship team is to wear the right uniform.

Since our Team is the winning one, no matter what (because we are in Jesus), we can have whatever kind of uniforms we want! We'll be purchasing team uniforms so that we can provide a united front as we carry out His work in Taiwan. They will be performance apparel designed to help you function more effectively and efficiently in hot and humid weather. The costs are calculated into the trip cost, so don't worry about the payment at this juncture in time.

So.....

What sizes do you all wear?

Please answer in the following format:
First and Last Name/ Best Shirt Size/Alternative Shirt Size/ Best Shorts Size/Alternative Shorts Size

Don't be shy!

First Email

Here's the first email we sent out, if you didn't get it:

Hello all,

You may be wondering why you are receiving this email. Well, first of all, because I sent it to you! It's not a mistake, each person on this list has been individually typed into the address column for this email. You may be wondering why specifically your names were put here. Would the answer "God" suffice?

Over the last two years, God has been working in our lives, through the privilege of serving God through missions in Taiwan. During this period, God has taught us many things and shown us many things through the situations, people we have met, and the people who have supported us in His work.

If you are receiving this email, you fall into one of the following four categories:

1) Past/current member of TW STM trip
-Please consider your past experiences, your spiritual life, and whether or not God may be calling you to help us improve with your experience and knowledge.

2) Shown some interest in participating in missions (not necessarily Taiwan) by signing up for our list or talking to us
-Please reply to this email so we can schedule a time to meet and gain a greater understanding of what this ministry entails

3) Are someone who our team members have been inspired by God, either through our own observations and prayers or the recommendations of others, as people God may be calling to join us in this upcoming missions trip.
-Don't know why you're on this list? Know, but kind of don't feel the same way? Please reply to this email so I can personally send you and give you a reason, and perhaps schedule a time where I can share more in-depth why we feel God may be calling you to join this STM.

4) Shown through ministry/actions support which we feel greatly indebted to, and would love to offer the opportunity to see what you are supporting first-hand!
-Please continue your faithful support! We would love to have someone with your knowledge, wisdom, and experience join in either the planning or implementation of this year's trip!

Hopefully, all of you fall under all of categories 2-4, and are soon to become category 1!

I just wanted to let you all know that our schedules for what we will be doing in Taiwan are being finalized and God has great things in store for this upcoming summer! Please prayerfully consider whether or not God may be calling you to join in His work in Taiwan. We will be having our first meeting during Spring Break, and can't wait to give you all the latest and greatest of what God is doing through us, for us, and in us. Here is some information that will help you gain an understanding of some of the inspiring work God is doing in Taiwan, as well as an attached FAQ outline of joining the STM:

thei42project

Hey everybody, this is the first post ever...which means nothing. Hopefully it won't be the last post ever. For now, Taiwan STM 10 stuff will be posted on this blog hopefully semi-regularly in english and eventually chinese. Let everyone know we exist!

You may be wondering, what does i42 mean? It is about Isaiah 42:6:

"I, the LORD, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles,"

Let's follow God.
